APRIL 2025
Plenty to celebrate and look forward to
We have a lot to be grateful for – and a lot to look forward to – as we head into the homestretch of our school year!
We started May with celebrations of our building leaders (National Principals Day on May 1) and our Food Service staff (School Lunch Hero Day on May 2), and are looking forward to well-deserved recognition for our teachers (National Teacher Appreciation Day on May 6) and our nurses (National School Nurse Day on May 7).
Like all of their colleagues throughout our organization, these outstanding professionals give their best everyday to serve our students, families and community. They are integral to all that we do, and we are thankful for their dedication and expertise, in May and throughout the year.
May is, of course, one of the most important months for school districts in New York. Our annual budget vote and Board of Education election is coming up May 20.
Our budget proposal would continue to support the programs and services our students need and deserve, while also minimizing the tax impact on our residents. Remember to vote May 20!
We also are looking forward to the joyful sounds of our student-musicians throughout May and early June.
All of our schools have spring concerts on the calendar. We hope you’ll enjoy these culminating performances of all of the hard work our students and music teachers have put in since September.
June, of course, brings the final chapters in our school year, capped by moving-up ceremonies at our elementary and middle schools, and Albany High School’s graduation ceremony at MVP Arena on June 29.

Budget vote and board elections May 20
Our Board of Education has approved a $342.4 million budget proposal for 2025-26. If approved by voters on May 20, the budget would continue to support programs and services for students while also minimizing the impact on taxpayers.
The proposal includes a tax-levy increase of 0.9%. It is the fifth year in a row that the district’s proposed increase has been less than 1%.

National Decision Day
Our Albany High seniors on May 1 by wearing post-grad apparel in celebration of their next steps as they prepare to graduate in June!
Decision Day encourages high school seniors to finalize their college decisions, and it was so wonderful seeing all the different schools, colleges, universities and institutions represented.
Mock trial county champs
Congratulations to our Albany High Mock Trial Team for winning the county championship two years in a row!
Although they didn't take home the regional championship, our Falcons had an exceptional season, and we are immensely proud of the 17 team members whose hard work, dedication and performance in the court room brought them all the way to the final.
MBK fellows announced
Congratulations to Albany High juniors Jahmeer Rose and James Campbell, who have been inducted into the 2025 My Brother’s Keeper Fellowship program by the New York State Education Department!
The prestigious program was started by former President Barack Obama, and this latest class of 124 student inductees represents 50 communities across the state.
Throughout the next year, Campbell and Rose will be matched with a mentor in government, education or business, and will develop and carry out a service project.
FCCLA earns a trip to nationals
Our Board of Education recognized five Albany High students who have earned the opportunity to represent their school at a national competition this summer!
Matilda Gish, Deavony Halladeen, Olivia Steuer, Mohima Nus and Sarah Naragire-Sengabo are part of the high school’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club, led by advisor Kris Foote, Ph.D. Each student finished in the top two at the statewide competition in March, earning the trip to nationals, which will be held in Florida.
Also joining her peers for the recognition April 24 was Trayloni Morales Parez, who also turned in a strong performance at the state competition.
Congratulations again to our students for these great achievements!
Falcons on fire at media arts fest
Congratulations to our incredible Falcons -- Bekim Spelling, Akeela Robertson, Leo Connell, Ian Roach and Jadyn Hardy -- who were recognized for their creative work at the 2025 Capital Regional Media Arts Festival on April 10!
With the guidance of media arts teacher Theresa Story, students created and submitted projects in the areas of film, photography, animation, computer art and graphic design work.
Arbor Day celebrations
We celebrated Arbor Day at several schools throughout the district, including and in collaboration with the city, state and our amazing and supportive community partners!
Spring concert season underway
Albany High kicked off spring concert season 2025 with its on April 23!
Congratulations to our Falcon Consort, Albanettes, Troubadours, B Flats and Jazzmanian Devils for an outstanding night of music, and a big thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the show!
