Middle-schoolers with superpowers

Five students pose after their moving-up ceremony

Albany International Academy fifth-graders moved up to middle school on Thursday equipped with a superpower: the ability to speak more than one language!

Students in the Dual Language Program learn in both Spanish and English, and students in the Newcomer Program are in the beginning stages of learning English and already speak the language of their country of origin.

Along with the usual awards and recognitions, Thursday’s intercontinental ceremony featured the pledge of allegiance in English and Spanish, and a student welcome in English, Arabic, Malay, Pashto and Spanish.

And best of luck in middle school, multilingual scholars!
